Located approximately 5 kilometres from Callans is the heartland of Patrick Kavanagh Country. A world-renowned poet Kavanagh was born and grew up in the neighbouring parish of Inniskeen. The rolling hills and drumlins of this little townland remain largely untouched since his generation and proved to be an inspiration to the Monaghan poet.
